Abstract:
The study examines the role of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in promoting digital financial inclusion among digital payment users in Chennai City. It focuses on the level of digital financial inclusion, the relationship between UPI usage and access to digital financial services, demographic differences, challenges faced by users, and measures for strengthening financial inclusion. Primary data were collected from 150 respondents using a structured questionnaire and convenience sampling. Percentage analysis, mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Friedman test were employed for data analysis. The findings reveal a relatively high level of digital financial inclusion, with an overall mean score of 3.78. A strong positive and statistically significant relationship was found between UPI usage and access to digital financial services (r = 0.789, p < 0.001). Significant differences in digital financial inclusion were observed across gender, age, educational qualification, occupation, and monthly income. Internet connectivity emerged as the major challenge faced by respondents. The study concludes that UPI plays an important role in improving access to and utilization of digital financial services and reducing dependence on cash. Strengthening digital infrastructure, financial literacy, transaction security, and inclusive initiatives can further enhance the contribution of UPI to digital financial inclusion.
